Worship Services

Worship is central to our life together at Vanderbilt Presbyterian Church.  We offer a variety of worship services to meet the needs of all age groups, including children.  You will find our worship services to be biblical, inspirational, joyful, and prayerful. We invite you to join us.

We welcome all children into the life of our church. We believe children are created by God and are a gift of God.  They are a very important part of our church family and we value them for their unique contributions.  We are delighted to have children worship with us.  We are a true family of God with all generations present.  During the Worship Services, parents and children can enjoy discovering together the Children's Bulletin.  This bulletin has been specially prepared to give children a quiet activity during Worship. For those who need a little help, designated parking, ramps, a special wheelchair worship area, and large print bulletins are available.  All buildings are wheelchair accessible.

About Sunday Worship Services Times:

  • During the months of October- May 16, 2010, the congregation meets for worship on Sunday mornings at *9:00am and 11:00am in the Sanctuary.
Summer Schedule:  May 23 through October 23, 2010, the congregation meets for worship on Sunday mornings at *10:00am in the Sanctuary.

  • *After the Worship Service "Children's Moment," children and youth may go to Sunday School.  The nursery is available for children, age 5 and under for all services.

  • First Fellowship is held every Sunday from 8:00-8:30am and provides time for praise music, silence, prayers and a homily in the Chapel.  This one-half hour long, non-traditional Sunday morning worship service is built on the Taizé model, but is not exclusively a Taizé service and it includes music, prayers, silence, Scripture and a brief message based on the Scripture reading for the day. Childcare is provided for children 5 yrs and under. Older children are expected to participate in the worship along with their parents.  We use a variety of hymns ranging from theologically appropriate praise hymns to very familiar traditional hymns, perhaps sung in a different style.  We celebrate communion once a month on the present communion schedule by intinction only.  Summer Schedule: First Fellowship meets from 8:30-9:00am, Sunday, May 23 through Sunday, October 20, 2010.

  • Taizé Evening Prayer Services:  The Taizé Prayer Services with candlelight and Taizé music are held in the evening on designated Sundays at 5:30 pm in the Chapel
In addition to prayerful, joyous music from the ecumenical community of Taizé in France, the services include scripture, prayer and silent reflection.  The services are short (about 30 minutes), and casual dress is encouraged.  If you have not had a chance to experience these wonderful services, we hope you will give them a try.
Next Taizé Candlelight Prayer Service  November 2010

  • Service of Wholeness:  The Service of Wholeness is held the third Sunday each month in the Sanctuary following the 9:00am Worship.  This ancient tradition is attested in the Book of James 5:14-15.  If you would like to participate in the healing service, please come forward and take a seat in the front pews.

Advent Season:  Special Advent services offer time for contemplation and celebration.  The December Wednesday Concerts begin at 12:05 p.m. in the Sanctuary followed by a light luncheon in Fellowship Hall.
