the ministry of music. You are invited to discover

Concert Series
The Concert Series is a part of the church's
outreach program to the community.
2010-2011 Season. The
2010-2011 Concert Series promises to delight, amaze and
inspire you, regardless of your musical preferences!
We've
brought together an outstanding group of singers and
instrumentalists to lift your spirit and immerse you in
the beauty of the world that surrounds us. You'll find
passionate prayers, delightful displays of whimsy and
contemplative music and song. Bring your family
and friends along to enjoy what promises to be one of
the most exciting series we've assembled in recent
years.

Seating for all concerts is first-come, first-served.
Doors open 45 minutes before performance time.
Nursery care provided for all Sunday concerts.
Midday Meditation
Take a break for relaxation and quiet throughout at
Vanderbilt's Midday Meditation concerts. These
brief programs can be a few quiet moments to savor alone
or to share with a friend or loved one.
Advent Meditations
Spend a few quiet moments in contemplation during
the Advent season at the Midday Meditation
Concerts. All concerts begin in the sanctuary
at 12:05 p.m. and are 25 minutes in length.

Chancel Choir The
110-voice Chancel Choir or
Vanderbilt Presbyterian Church provides music for all
services of worship. Drawing from repertoire of all
periods of music history from plainchant to contemporary
Christian music, the choir serves as the musical
ministers of he congregation. The Chancel Choir is
a non-auditioned ensemble and membership is open to all
interested singers. In addition to providing music for
worship, the choir presents two concerts annually.
Chancel Choir Rehearsals
Rehearsals are held every Wednesday night September
through May in Cochran Music Hall. Warm-up rehearsals are held
one-half hour before each worship service. If
you are interested in joining the choir, please call
Jim Cochran at 592-5398.
Children's Choirs
Children are invited to join us for rehearsals on
Wednesdays as a part of our Wednesdays
at VPC/Stepping Stones
program. For more information, contact the office.
The choir will sing
on the THIRD SUNDAY of each month, the five o’clock
Christmas Eve service, Palm Sunday, and the annual
Musical.
Un-Rehearsed Christmas Pageant Throughout the Fall, Children and Youth learn
Christmas carols in preparation of this annual event
which is held on Christmas Eve. Under the
direction of Dr. James Cochran
Annual Children and Youth
Celebration of
Music Throughout the Spring, Children and Youth prepare an
exciting musical to present during the month of May.
Summer
Music Camp for Children
Students 2nd-5th
grades are invited to join us for a camp filled with
singing and ringing and more! The annual summer
music camp for students in grades two through five
(rising) will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. during the
week of June. Campers present special music during the
Worship Services. Campers learn singing and ringing
techniques and learn about a different composer each
day. There are instrument demonstrations, and of course,
cookies! You may register by calling the Church Office
at 597-5410. An Emergency Surgical Health Form must be
on file for each child prior to Music Camp.

Carillon Ringers
Handbell Choir
The Carillon Ringers Handbell Choir, an ensemble
utilizing 5 1/2 octaves of Schulmerich handbells
conducted by Stanley Leonard, provides inspiring music
during regular worship services from October through
April and for Christmas and Spring Concerts presented at
the church. If you're interested in
membership, please contact Stanley Leonard at the church

Moller Organ
The church's spectacular 33-rank Moller pipe organ leads
the congregation in joyous song at all services of

Pianos
Vanderbilt Presbyterian Church is proud to house four
beautiful grand pianos. The pianos are located in
the Sanctuary, Fellowship Hall, and Cochran Music Hall.

Recordings
The Chancel Choir has recorded two compact disc
recordings. The first, entitled Sunset and Evening Star,
was recorded live on March 21,1999. This concert was
performed in memory of Jim Cochran's dad, Bryce Clark
Cochran. This recording features John Rutter:
Requiem with the Chancel Choir and soloists Jeanne
Snedeker and Ben Petty. Other titles include:
Bach: Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, James B. Cochran,
organ; Dottie Rambo: We Shall Behold Him, Jeanne
Snedeker, soprano; Janet Johnson: Love Remembered (in
memory of James Cochran's father), Janet Johnson, piano;
and choral works including: Holst: I Vow to Thee
My Country; Rutter: The Clare Benediction; and the hymns
Sunset and Evening Star and The Battle Hymn of the
Republic.
The second CD features the Spring Concert with the
combined Choirs of Vanderbilt Presbyterian Church and
First Presbyterian Church of Naples (recorded March 23,
2003). Featuring Antonin Dvorak's Mass in D Major,
Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus" and Eugene Butler's How
Excellent Is Thy Name, this CD will fill your home with
music to stir your soul.
Enchanting Oboe: Relax to the sounds of Debussy,
Rossini, Chopin, Bellini and other composers in this CD
featuring Andrew Snedeker on oboe, James Cochran on
piano and harpisichord and Richard Fleisher on harp.
